FAQs/Handbook
How old do youth have to be to attend Moroni's Quest?
You can attend Moroni's Quest if you are turning 14 this year.
Pick up and drop off:
Wards will be arranging transportation to the site.
Drop off time – Thursday July 20 – 10:00 am at the location arranged by your ward – youth should arrive in costume with all gear marked with their name and ward.
Pick up time – Saturday July 22 – 3:00 pm at the pick up location arranged by your ward.
Should I go? How can I make sure this is a great experience?
Moroni's Quest will be a great opportunity to grow in many ways. Just like FSY, remember this: What you put into it is what you'll get out of it.
- Be inclusive and open to new friendships.
- Look for opportunities to serve those around you.
- Come prepared with questions and seek answers to those questions.
- Use the notebook you'll receive at Moroni's Quest to record your goals, experiences and impressions.
- Talk to your family leaders or volunteers at Moroni's Quest if you have a concern.
We
are excited to have you come join us for Moroni’s Quest on July 20-23, 2023. We anticipate that this will be a great
testimony building experience for all involved.

General
Information
1.
On
the first day, the youth will be divided into pre-determined groups called Families. Each family will be given a set of Family
Leaders. Activities throughout the day
will be done with your Family. Meals will be eaten together as a stake and
youth will be free to mingle with other families.
2.
Youth
will be organized into tents for sleeping. Girls from two families will share a
tent and boys from two families will share a tent. A youth leader will be
appointed for each tent. Stake leaders will be sleeping nearby and will be available
in the nighttime in case of any issues that come up.
Arrival
Procedure:
1.
Wards
have been asked to organize travel to and from the site. Start time is 10 am on
Thursday, July 20. End time is 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 22. WE ASK THAT YOU ARRIVE IN YOUR MORONI’S QUEST
COSTUME AND THAT YOU ARRIVE ON TIME.
2.
Upon
arriving, you will be asked to check-in at our registration station. You will be given a satchel, a journal, and a
Book of Mormon. Please add your water
bottle, sunscreen and any items that you will need for the day to that satchel,
as it will be all that you have with you until after lunch. Youth will
be dropped off at the registration area and their gear will be taken to the
sleeping area to be picked up and sorted into tents later in the day.
IMPORANT: WARD LEADERS are responsible for
arranging transportation for their youth, and their gear, to the Moroni’s Quest
site. Please make these arrangements
ahead of time to ensure a quick departure from the site.
3.
Upon
arriving at the MQ Site the youth will be dropped off at ‘Jerusalem’ at which
point they will begin their adventure with only their satchels and under the
supervision of Quest Parents. Drivers will
then leave their youth in ‘Jerusalem’ and take their gear to a designated site
where they will unload their vehicles and then depart. The gear will only be
unloaded. It will be setup by the youth later in the day.
Safety
Station:
1.
There
will be a safety station setup at the site. This station will be staffed 24
hours a day with security and first aid volunteers.
2.
Our
security volunteers will be conducting regular patrols to keep an eye out for
wildlife or any other unwanted guests.
In addition, they will be monitoring who is coming and going from the
site. We would love to minimize the
amount of people arriving and leaving the site during Moroni’s Quest. We understand though, that in some cases this
will be unavoidable. If you must come
and go outside the normal arrival and departure times, you will be asked to
check-in with our security team. Please
note – you will need to walk to and from the parking area.
3.
Our
first aid volunteers will be available with standard first kits to assist with
any minor medical issues.
a.
In
the event of a major medical incident, the first aid volunteers will determine
if the injured person requires immediate medical attention they will
co-ordinate an emergency response.
b.
After
consultation with the youth’s parents, if there is a minor incident that
requires a non-urgent evacuation we will ask for the assistance of an adult
volunteer or the youth’s parents to drive the injured party back to Calgary.
IMPORTANT: CAMPWIDE EMERGENCY PROCEDURE: In the event of an emergency, such as a fire,
storm or wild animal on site. The security
volunteers will give 3 long, clear blasts of an air horn. Once this is done, we would ask all
participants, leaders and volunteers to assemble at the ‘Village,’ where they
will receive further instructions. It is
important that EVERYONE know the signal and the muster point.
Meals:
1.
All
meals will be provided, cooked and served by the Moroni’s Quest food committee. Meals will be eaten in a common area separate
from your camping area.
2.
Anyone
arriving at the site prior to lunch on Thursday need to make plans for their
own food. Moroni’s Quest food committee meals will begin Thursday at lunch
time.
3.
Everyone
will eat together, but supervision during meals will be the responsibility of
the Quest Parents.
4.
The
food committee has been made aware of food allergies stated on registration and
is working to make accommodations for individuals.
IMPORANT:
A.
So
that we don’t attract animals, there will be NO FOOD IN THE CAMPING AREA. All meals will be served and eaten in the
‘Village.’ We would ask that no one take
food from the ‘Village’ to the camping area.
B.
Please
ensure all waste especially food waste makes it into the garbage cans.
C.
PARTICPANTS
& PARENTS –
Please don’t bring or send your youth with any snacks or food. There will be plenty to eat.
Camping:
1.
There
will be a large area designated as ‘The Campground’. This is where drivers will be instructed to
unload all the camping equipment Thursday morning.
2. Adult volunteers are responsible for their own sleeping arrangements. Adults arriving with trailers need to arrive by Wednesday evening. If you are setting up a tent, please arrive around 8 am on Thursday to get set up before the youth arrive. You are welcome to bring your own lawn chair for down times.
4.
There
is electricity available in the camping area, however, please ensure you bring
enough flashlights and/or lanterns to move around after dark.
5.
There
will be NO FIRES allowed in the camp area. Please DO NOT bring firewood.
IMPORTANT: Adult
volunteers are responsible for ensuring that they have all the equipment
they need to setup camp, including tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads,
lanterns and folding chairs. We would
ask that these items including the folding chairs stay in the camping area and
are not brought over to the ‘Village’.
There is a packing list for participants available at MoronisQuest.blogspot.com
Electronics
and Communications:
1.
Everyone
including
youth and leaders has been asked NOT to bring any electronics including
cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, etc. We would ask that everyone respect
this request.
2.
There
is cell phone reception on site. However, please do not bring your cell phone
with you during the activities during the day. We have a designated
photographer who will be taking photos throughout the event.
Volunteers
Expectations:
1.
If
possible, we ask that volunteers stay for the whole weekend to reduce the
traffic of people coming and going. That said, we understand this might
not be possible and other arrangements will be necessary.
2.
Participants
on site must be in costume.
3.
We
anticipate that volunteers will be busy with assignments most of the time.
However, if you have time where you have no assigned task, we encourage you to observe,
in the background, the re-enactments and activities. We ask that you respect the Quest Parents as
they will be responsible for supervising, directing the youth and leading discussions
with youth during the day.
4.
We
have a full committee of food volunteers with a busy schedule. Please do not
consider the kitchen area an area to hang out and rest.
